St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, located in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Apalachicola, is a secluded sanctuary for nature lovers. Accessible only by boat, the 12,492-acre refuge includes St. Vincent Island, Pig Island, and two mainland tracts along Franklin County Road 30-A. The refuge is a vital migratory stop for 277 bird species, including several endangered species, and serves as a breeding site for endangered red wolves. St. Vincent Island offers miles of undeveloped beaches and trails for hiking, bicycling, wildlife viewing, and nature photography. Visitors can also enjoy fishing and kayaking in a pristine, natural environment.
