Description

Long Key, once a playground for the wealthy, has evolved into a peaceful sanctuary within Long Key State Park. Located on the Gulf side of the Florida Keys, this spot offers diverse outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, bird-watching, and flats fishing. In the early 1900s, Henry Flagler’s luxurious Long Key Fishing Camp attracted celebrities and elite anglers, with notable figures like author Zane Grey and U.S. presidents among its guests. However, the camp was destroyed in the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane. Today, Long Key State Park allows visitors to experience the serene natural beauty of the Keys. Hiking trails provide close encounters with unique plant and animal life, while the kayak trail along the mangroves reveals the hidden wildlife of these shallow, crystal-clear waters. Accessible facilities, picnic areas, and pet-friendly policies make it a welcoming spot for families and adventurers alike.
