Description

Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, now the Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, is a 1,000-acre sanctuary divided by the Indian River Lagoon. Located on Jupiter Island, the refuge’s 735-acre beach tract is a prime nesting site for sea turtles, with protected trails through estuaries, pine scrub, and barrier islands. Visitors enjoy the Hobe Sound Nature Center’s wildlife presentations and sea turtle walk program, held from May to mid-July. This unique habitat shelters almost 40 species listed as threatened or endangered, offering a rare glimpse into old Florida’s natural beauty across its miles of untouched mangroves, scrub, and coastline.
